Felicity's home water birth

May 14, 2017

Big thank you to Inspiration family birthing center especially to Robyn,
I’m so grateful for you. Andy, you are truly the man of my dreams, and I really couldn’t have done this without you by my side. You are the love of my life and I’m so happy we get to do this life together. I love you so much. I thank God every day for giving me you. ❤️

Here we were on our due date and still I felt no signs of contractions, and I was so ready to give birth. I had already been feeling so uncomfortable with pressure on my pelvis, and I had the worst back pain. I was so scared I was going to go way over my due date and was going to have to be induced. I went out for lunch with a friend when my Braxton hicks started, so I had went home and decided to try to walk the baby out. I started drinking ginger root tea while Leonardo rode his bike outside. My sister ended up coming over, and we started walking around the block several times. At exactly 8:51pm I had my first contraction while out on our walk. We ended up heading back home, and Andy was finishing up dinner. I sat on the couch and I felt another contraction. I told Andy I thought tonight was going to be the night we meet our little baby, but he didn't believe me. I called the on call midwife and Robyn started texting me. My contractions were six minutes apart, and Robyn told me if I could to get a nap in, have something to eat, and stay hydrated but I didn’t have an appetite to eat and it all happened so fast I couldn’t take a nap.

We hadn’t done our belly cast so Andy and Leonardo started working on the belly cast. By the time we had finished up my contractions were stronger, so I asked Andy to take it off of me so I could get in the bathtub. I called my mom, Andys mom and my best friend. I had lost track of time, and the contractions were now five minutes apart and Angelique (best friend), my sister and India were sitting on the bathroom floor and were timing my contractions with an app. I had incense on and instrumentals playing and I was in my element. I don’t remember what they were even talking about, but I do remember having to throw up, so here I was on an empty stomach now. Leonardo was in the bathroom with us and he was holding my hand and telling me how I needed to stay relaxed, he was showing me how to exhale and inhale and reminding me that I could do this.

My sister ended up calling my friend Michelle, who owns Love is me photography and was going to do my birth pictures. Robyn said she would be here around midnight, and her assistant would get there before. When her assistant arrived she started getting everything ready for the birth, and I was still meditating, while Andy was getting the birth pool ready in the living room ( I never made it inside ) some time after, Michelle and my mom got there and Robyn had arrived a little bit after. My water hadn’t broke yet, but my contractions were getting stronger. Robyn checked the baby’s heart beat and was making sure everything was okay. The baby sounded fine and I think an hour had passed when she checked, I was already 8-9cm dilated. I got this intense feeling of having to poop, and the contractions had gotten so strong by this time, and Andy was already half way in the tub with me, and I started to push. I pushed for about twenty minutes and I literally felt like I couldn’t keep going anymore. They kept trying to give me water to keep me hydrated, and Robyn told me that I wasn’t making any progress because I was pushing wrong, so I switched position and I started feeling the baby coming down.

There got to a point where I was exhausted and sore. I screamed and I threw a couple of F bombs while Andy whispered encouraging words to me. I was in so much pain, when the midwife went to check the baby’s head I slapped her hand (which I was so embarrassed about afterwards) Andy calmed me down when I felt like I was losing control, he rubbed me, and told me that I was going to do this and that I needed to trust myself. I cried and then I started to push for another twenty five minutes when I started feeling the head coming out, and it was such an insane and intense sensation, the shoulders were finally through and I went to grab my baby, but I was scared she/he would slip out of my hands so Robyn and placed her on my shoulder. I had felt such a sense of relief and accomplishment in that moment. I thought she was a boy because I touched the cord and thought it was a penis lol when Robyn opened up her legs and showed us she was a girl I just started crying tears of joy. We had got our little girl, and she was so perfect and so beautiful. We had conquered something that day and there wasn’t a dry eye in that room. I’m so happy that I got to experience the birth of my dreams, and I’m so blessed to have shared it with the people I love the most.

Ps. I think it’s so amazing how India (my poodle) came up the bathtub the minute Felicity arrived earth side.
Thank you Michelle and Angelique for capturing one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

I love you Felicity.
